What is direct cremation?
A direct cremation is carried out soon after death, without a funeral service or viewing beforehand. The provider collects your loved one, handles the permit and paperwork, carries out the cremation, and returns the ashes, usually within a week or two. How this index is built
Prices reflect the complete cost of a direct cremation: transfer of the deceased, the cremation permit and paperwork, the cremation itself, and return of the ashes, with no service or viewing. We compile ranges from providers’ published General Price Lists and public pricing across each state, then report the low, typical, and high figures a family is likely to encounter. Figures are reviewed against NFDA medians and updated as provider pricing changes. Prices are estimates and vary by provider; always confirm an itemized quote locally.
